なお、はやぶさに搭載されているカメラは消費電力を抑えるために長い間オフになっている。現状も、カプセルを地球に降下させる体勢では地球の撮影は方向が異なるため無理で、無理に行おうとすれば機器に影響を与える可能性もあるため、使用しないことが決定されている。ただし川口氏は、「カプセル分離後も3時間程度は通信が可能なため、そこでもしかしたら挑戦してみる可能性もある」とし、「もしできることならば、内之浦、九州を撮影できれば、と思っている」とはやぶさの最後に向けた思いも述べてくれた。
